Corpus:

1. a large or complete collection of writings: the entire corpus of Old English poetry.
2. a body, mass, or part having a special character or function.

About the work:

Corpus (2012) is a descriptive list of the full contents of Matthew's studio completed as he moved into a new space in August 2012.

The contents of Matthew's creative physical space is constantly changing with items being added or disappearing. Corpus catalogues hundreds of objects from past moments in the artist's personal life and career, including research for past and current projects, unrealised works, memories, works by other artists and objects that are simply of interest to the artist.

Dipping in an out of the list, readers of the text pause, reflect and compare these contents with their own expectations and perceptions of what an artist's studio is, constructing an imaginary space. Despite the specific details of the list, no matter how long or descriptive of the studio's contents it can never fully capture the reality of the actual space. Listing these items publicly makes us question the notion of the studio as a private space that represents its private occupant, his motivations and intentions.
